  1. Hi All,

with all the talk of the world ending in 2012, what do Pagans think of this. I am wiccan and my husband isn't. He is convinced the world is going to end in 2012. What do all you think?

To me the same question was being asked before 2000 aka Y2K, and it like the 2012 mystery will amount to diddly squat for the general population.

As a Pagan-ish kind of guy, I might prepare a ceremony in order to harness the planetary energies, which should be high during the whole year.

There will be a lot of chaotic energy flying around just from those who're indecisive, or others displaying genuine fear. Entertainment you just can't buy.

On the off chance that something like poles shift, or aliens fry us off the planet...I'd like to say so long and thanks for all the fish.

  2. I am intrigued that lawyer implied that living in the Now allows the spirit to wait patiently prepared for those things which life will bring us. Much of the lives that people lead are based in personal perception. Two people may have very different ideas of what is real and valid and what is not and one of the early lessons in the practice of Witchcraft is to understand that the world we percieve exists, in large portion, only in our individual imaginations. This is not to say that true facts are not available to us, or that there is no physical world with which to reckon, but once we realize that much of our percieved reality is based not only on our observations which can be flawed, but also our own interpretations and the prior interpretations of others, then we see that we are already experts in creating illusions.

At that initial stage, the first challenge is to seperate and identify individual illusions, mass illusions, and that which is real and present. Each of these states must be dealt with differently and thus it is paramount that the differences between them are seen and dealt with clearly and with reason. Fear of Witchcraft often stems from the idea that people are running around out there changing things willy-nilly without thought to the larger reprecussions of fiddling with things not understood. But one of the secrets of effective Witchcraft is to first understand a situation both as it is percieved to be and as it actually is before moving to create changes, for how can we know the right thing to do if we are limited in our comprehension of the problem?

What has this to do with living in the now? Well, an awful lot and unfortunately it's one of the hardest hurdles to jump for some. Living in the past, or in one's pipe-dreams of the future, or even being stressed and preoccupied about the end of the day, are all states of imagination where the Present is brushed aside in favor of speculation. If we are to understand, we must also push aside our personal illusions which often control us in annoyingly persistant thoughts of, if only, and wouldn't it be nice.

In effect, you are being asked to literally live "beyond mind" where personal and mass perception can be observed without being accompanied by reactionism.

Here is a situation that hopefully may demonstrate the point more clearly.

A young couple marries both fully aware that one of them is conservative with money while the other is careless. Eventually, the careless partner spends several hundred dollars knowing it has been earmarked for rent. For a week, embarrassed and afraid, the careless partner lies and evades, hoping to replace the missing $$'s before getting caught. Well, let's say it doesn't go down that way. The meticulous partner finds out about the shortage while trying to pay the bills. Well, most people would react immediately and emotionally. All at once, the meticulous individual who by nature carefully guards against such occurences may feel betrayed, and as a result, quite angry, not to mention afraid and anxious because now the rent cannot be paid. These reactions are all considered well within normal parameters. But if the meticulous partner is also trained in one of several mystic paths or perhaps a similar technique gained from psychotherapy, then he or she may not find himself in the position of not needing to react at all. Rather, the incident is observed, and the problem evaluated based only on the facts, rather then addressed with stress or fear or anger. Now we are approaching a realm which is beyond individual insecurities and care, where there is no "mind", but merely reasonable and decisive action to address the problem at hand. Compassion and love rule out retaliation, and the meticulous partner can forgive quickly without resentment while taking the realistic steps necessary to prevent a future occurence. There is no judgement, just a need to deal with the situation exactly as it presented as each moment unfolds itself.

    Yana yoga....

  3. True Zen comes from the no-minds of Gautam & Lao Tsu, Bodhidharma making the connect when he went from India to China.

There really is no Zen Buddhism, cause religion is of the mind, and Zen means beyond mind. There is no philosophy cause philosophy is of the mind.

Was Jesus a Christian? Was Gautam a Buddhist? Seems the students make the religions after the Master is gone.

"Mind is only thought...Take away thought, where is mind?"

The reason Zen is suited to combat is that combat is a NOW thing...Every thought is of past or future. There is no time for thought in combat. The mind is of no use NOW.

Ever been in a car wreck? Happens fast, we usually don't remember the details.

In sword play, as all martial arts, the training 'speaks' for itself. There is no thought.

If you touch something very hot, do you have to think about moving away from the heat?

If a weapon is fast approaching your sphere of energy...No time for thought!

This is what Gautam and Lao Tsu discovered. If you shut off the chattering mind, truth remains. And your training remains, in Martial and other Arts.

Thought is the 'dust on the mirror' that clouds our vision. No matter how Grand the thoughts...still dust clouding our vision.

    Tibetan Buddhism says;

    1. Truth IS.

    2. Mind is the barrier(dust).

    3. No-mind is the door.

Why do we need to invent stuff. We must be careful...Like Edgar Cayce said, "Mind is the maker." Isn't our Truth, our connection to each other, our Love, enough?

If you shut off the mind, Truth is not gone. It is what's still 't/here'.

    "Nothing real can be threatened,

    Nothing unreal exists.

Herein lies the Peace of God."

    Gautam said;

    'The fletcher whittles his arrows,

    The farmer tills his fields,

    The wise direct their mind."

Maybe we can direct our mind AS we till the field, and whittle the arrows!

"A thought is the smallest particle in the universe...Also the largest, cause the universe is made of it."

    Namaste

    Samdhi...

  4. For years I have wondered why when the wizard/magician, whoever, says 'Open Says Me', the door opens.

This seems a great tool for Spiritual Growth, if used to remain in the NOW. No matter what you are doing at 'the moment', your intention does not change. Maybe 'agenda' is another word for this...Long term goal?

Probably 'agenda' & 'long term goal' are not enough to describe this powerful tool available to us.

Maybe intention is not the word. Volition must be the word for this?

I have much respect for the ancient ways, and 'religions'. Maybe some of the 'work' they do is in developing Volition?

    Comments Appreciated!

    PEACE

Anton Lavey pointed this out in his writings. He understood the nature of humans is to be self serving. Even an act of charity is self serving, it's going to make you feel good. There's nothing wrong with that.

Another example comes from Joseph Campbell, "Follow your bliss."

I say, your joy is the root of creating the life you want to live.

  5. In a few of my post here I allude to an idea: Not waiting around for some God thingy to show up; send me a sign, so I know I have the "okie-dokie," to proceed in worth while things.

It is firmly my belief, if there were some innocuous old bearded fellow, who takes great delight in molding my destiny, or just being the wise sheriff of the universe...This being would make His?/Her?/It's? interest in my life a little more clear.

I know the response to this line may be some sanctimonious thing like: "It's God's will that your heart remain harden until you truly understand his grace."

These reactions are based on a dogmatic stance about scriptures, which seems to some how empower a person to know the will of God.

So I say to you, relax and let that God thingy be God -whatever it's doing?

In fact when we say, "God is..." We put limits on the idea of this Omnipotent being; which may have just simply set this self supporting grand mechanism we call the universe to go, and left us to our own devises.

If this is so: "set this self supporting grand mechanism we call the universe to go, and left us to our own devises."

Then I intend to have as many experiences as I can with this universe.

Wait a minute!? This smacks of Taoism! Are you taking the long way around to say you're a Taoist?

No mature Taoist would ever carry or advertise such a thing. It would bring them no closer to knowing the true nature of the Tao.

While I am here in this universe, I plan on governing myself...less guilt that way.

Regardless of what we presume to see or react to, nobody dies and we are all connected.

The concepts of "Heaven and Hell" are always at hand, and equally remain a distraction from the true nature of reality.

People always need help with something, so rather than spreading ourselves thin do what you can for those who will pay it forward.

Bring color to your life, find somebody to love.

The enemy never wins, they only found an opportunity to extend their complaint.

Here's one from my grandpa: You're only as intelligent as you want to be.

  6. Myself...I can speak for hours on Buddhism and the Tao but I generally clam up when asked about myself personally

I can talk about money and most anything, but I too find it a challenge to talk about myself. I think it has a lot to do with my early studies in Buddhism and the Tao. I learned to be more self introspective, and hope people would know me by my actions rather than a convenient autobiography. What can a few words on paper describe about the richness of a being's life.

  7. In Hebrew there is no Zero, and the letters were interchangeable with numbers. In turn they could condensed down to a single number, letter, or word. With 666, it was argued whether it was meant for Greek translation or Hebrew, which leads to leads to a lot of rabbit chasing.

Personally, I use the Hebrew and Biblical references to the first mentioning of just 6.

According to the scriptures man was created on the 6th day, therefore Man's number is 6.

Whose causing all the trouble in the world today?? Man, Man, Man!

  8. In Native American traditions and some Middle Eastern ones, tobacco is recognized for it's healing properties and occasionally it's power over life and death. Tobacco does in fact have some healing properties when applied correctly and dogs like to eat it in part because it prevents certain nasty little worms. In addition to it's healing values however nicotine is one of the fastest most effective neurotoxin known to man. It can kill you dead in a matter of seconds. Although illegal now, Native American hunters used to tip their arrows with nicotine extraction to kill certain large predators. I do not know if this process renders the meat inedible, but I do know that it's a good way to stop a bear from coming back. There are lots of recognized uses for tobacco other than the simple addictive ones but I do not personally use it in my own practice as you don't find it listed as a common celtic herb, and I tend to stick primarily with the celtic traditions using peppermint rather than sage for cleansing and banishing.

The half life of nicotine is 2 hours while in the body, so it wouldn't harm the the meat. Powdered nicotine when inhaled takes 7 seconds to reach the brain, and it will kill without a doubt.

Castor beans are still in use today. They are used for constipation and are where we get Castor Oil. In the past when improperly made the byproducts of the Castor plant would kill as well. It turned out to be the strongest known poison, Rican.

Note: Poisonous powders and liquids are either taken orally or injected, while venom is always injected.

In my experience of helping people with banishing rituals, whatever the cultural influence, I have learned some very gruesome tactics.

  9. Why is that? What keeps you coming back? Why ya'll like it here?

First off the ulc offers ordination, which when I heard about it I felt it was a novelty. The idea of hundreds of people ordained; presumably without any seminary, or Bible school training really tickled me. I personally have been through a few courses provided by churches in the past and found them to be one-sided and self-serving.

I have nothing against a classically trained clerics, but what we have cannot be taught in seminary, and it's worth protecting.

The next thing was to find mature, teachable people :biggrinthumb: trying to brighten up the corner where they are. These are people who can take a joke.

  10. I haven't written about it in a while, but the reason that the authority concept is so important is because you need it if you are to live free. It takes a great deal of personal responsibility for your current life, if you are going to take up the mantle of creating your life. It means quietly, but definitely turning your back on a great many human habits. It is easy to judge others, particularly others who do not share our zest for spiritual truth, the the world only needs so many witches or mystics or doctors or plumbers, but when you are the author of your own life, living free and with the authority of experience and wisdom, you recognize that the only reason others are trapped, is because they want to be. Dare I say it, I think some people need the safety of their small lives and small illusions. It would be downright inhumane to take it, and they will fight you to keep it anyway. But you are free. Free to choose something else, and you first have to choose if you want something else.

After that, the real trials begin. We are standing at the threshold whereby we can see at least two worlds at all times and now we must live in both of them, and reconcile both of them in our own souls. Anyone who has glimpsed this threshold in the smallest way can tell you it is powerful, awe-inspiring and frankly a little overwhelming and scary.

Many of us have been there at least once. What was it for you? How did you find yourself in that peculiar place where all the choices are yours for the choosing and only love fills your heart for those who will never see or understand the awesome worlds that lie just underneath the physical really real world (or at least that's what we call it.)

Share your experiences if you can.

Abraham Maslow a humanistic psychologist called this a Peak Experience, in which only a Self Actualized person reaches this state of being that you've expressed here.

Of course this has been going on long before Maslow filled in blank, which modern psychology had been drawing far too long.

It is very aw inspiring, scary, and empowering all at once.

I was by a the Platte river here in Colorado, doing a walking meditation, and just listening. Then I was Aware! My presence was everywhere.

  11. I do believe deeply in Self empowerment; to the point in which I refuse to wait around for a sign from some innocuous God/Goddess thingy.

Personally I believe I chose to come here, and not to fix some problem with my Karma. I came to help.

A friend of mine said something that stuck with me, "Why would you leave a really cool place (spiritual realm) only to take up residence in the projects (here)?

I think love is the same no matter where we are, and we're motivated by it.

  12. "80% efficiency-a pretty good mark to make by 28."

Hmm...from an Astrological point you are approaching Saturn's 29.5 year transit age match up. Some people don't notice a difference until they're 30+, but Saturn is the heavenly body which travels from the light to darkness and back again.

When you turn 30, there's a psychological change in behavior in which we you may view 20-somethings as kids. You'll see things from a deeper maturity.

"But your comment reminds me of the concept of authority as I learned it in my early studies of Druidry."

Cool! I'd like to hear about this.

I always try not to take myself too seriously, I learned this from Taoism.

  13. I like how Fawzo right off helped us define the difference between Magician and Mystic...Thank you Fawzo.

In my practice I have clung more to the Mystical side of things, but to the point of Self deity, for myself.

I still do spell work with sigils, classic craft, and help people with problem solving using magickal remedies, which is mostly psychology.

A person needs to feel empowered, so I give them a simple spell they can believe in, and preform without too much trouble, but most of the time they just need to talk.

Early on I had a hard time with all things human, and it took me a while to get grounded and balanced in my pursuit of magick. Oddly enough it was science which grounded me right along with gardening and women.

For me learning to love this world has been the biggest hump. Learning to appreciate this place and not yearn too hard for the mysterious place beyond, because there's a reason, I, wanted to be here. I know why now, and it has focused my magickal eye.

I am in this world for occult reason, this doesn't make me an authority on it, and I'm here to help.

  14. The fact that there are over 6.5 Billion people on this planet, tells that someone is doing something right. A very small percentage of the population is involved in any extreme behavior.

I have two tattoos on my body, I may have a drink once in a while, I have smoked marijuana twice (it did not make me High), I really tried to pick up smoking, but couldn't get passed the bad flavor.

In the 90's a study was done on the social differences of big cities and small towns. They found in small towns people are more likely to help someone in distress. For example, an old man dressed poorly laid down on a sidewalk in both a big city and small town, faining unconsciousness or being sick.

More people went to his aid faster in the small town.

Big towns act like thick skinned giants...it takes a while for them to notice the sliver of glass working into their heal, but once it does the giant begins to limp.

When I get a sliver, I stop almost immediately.

Imposing one too many restrictive laws on people is like a sliver of glass and there should be a reaction. In a free society good behavior is encouraged and rewarded; our education is slanted toward this kind of thinking, but in some cases the theme doesn't hold in the home.

Ultimately the numbers speak for themselves. life always finds a way.

  15. The end of the world story is a commonly recurring theme in most religions. The best reason I can come up with why this happens is the Cosmic Calender. The Mayans had theirs, no doubt, but all cultures on earth can point to their own.

Before modern man demystified most of the western world, one of strongest connections to the "end of the world" was more an agricultural observance or festival. They welcomed the end and bid the past fair well.

The main problem we have with an "END TIMES" message today is how far removed we are from the above concept.

I have a dear friend, whom can not wait for the "Rapture" to happen, and I explained the agricultural observance or festival idea; right along with a strong argument about interpretation of scripture, and the people which wrote them. He still found comfort in the idea of the world being judged by fire.

I think the key word her is comfort. A person...everybody wants to feel good.
