  1. No, its not fine with God if we kill those who don't believe. Did Jesus kill nonbelievers? You might be thinking of Allah? :)

Dan get your facts straight, I'm sure I can dig up more proof if you like:

They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman. (2 Chronicles 15:12-13 NAB)

    2) Suppose a man or woman among you, in one of your towns that the LORD your God is giving you, has done evil in the sight of the LORD your God and has violated the covenant by serving other gods or by worshiping the sun, the moon, or any of the forces of heaven, which I have strictly forbidden. When you hear about it, investigate the matter thoroughly. If it is true that this detestable thing has been done in Israel, then that man or woman must be taken to the gates of the town and stoned to death. (Deuteronomy 17:2-5 NLT)

1)If your own full brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife, or you intimate friend, entices you secretly to serve other gods, whom you and your fathers have not known, gods of any other nations, near at hand or far away, from one end of the earth to the other: do not yield to him or listen to him, nor look with pity upon him, to spare or shield him, but kill him. Your hand shall be the first raised to slay him; the rest of the people shall join in with you. You shall stone him to death, because he sought to lead you astray from the Lord, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery. And all Israel, hearing of this, shall fear and never do such evil as this in your midst. (Deuteronomy 13:7-12 NAB)

Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods. In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully. If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock. Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it. Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the LORD your God. That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt. Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction. Then the LORD will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you. He will have compassion on you and make you a great nation, just as he solemnly promised your ancestors. "The LORD your God will be merciful only if you obey him and keep all the commands I am giving you today, doing what is pleasing to him." (Deuteronomy 13:13-19 NLT)

"O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us. Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones." (Psalm 137:8&9) God is foretelling the future here, he isn't giving orders to the Israelites. The Babylonians had been very cruel to Israel and everyone else, and it would be the Medes and Persians who would extend the same type of cruelty against Babylon as they had dished-out to others.

Yea sure Dan that justifies picking up infants and smashing there brains out against rocks.

Whoever said God was our great protector?

Dan I'm actually starting to wonder if you even read the Bible lol

Pain and suffering is due to the absence of God, we were separated from the Tree of Life and left to a world of flesh, sin, and hardship. God didn't design that for us, we chose it. What charges would you bring against God? That he hates wickedness and sin, or that God had a problem with societies that sacrificed their own children? Boy, the nerve of God to intercede against unrighteousness run-amuck.

The Hebrews sacrificed their own kids as well Dan. Jepthah and his daughter was only one example. Dan that separation from the tree of life was created by God denying Adam and Eve access to it. Besides Dan Hominids died for tens of thousands of years before Adam and Eve ever existed.

  2. So Fawzo, in your mind the killing of innocent children and pregnant Jewish women by Arab suicide bombers is OK. Are Arab suicide bombers your heros?

No Songster they are delusional men who live in fear and think their actions will improve the conditions of those they love or who act out of sheer frustration believing they are unable to change their plight.

I think for every Jewish soldier, woman or child that is killed by an Arab at least 100 Arabs die in retaliation and their homes destroyed.

The Jews I know are also appalled by the actions of Israel against the Palestinians.

So I do not believe "the Jews" is a fair characterization.

I would think you are correct, what decent human would not be appaled. Whether that number is the majority of the population though I do not know.

  3. I consider the bombing of Nakasaki and Hiroshima a crime against humanity.

Agreed Hyper. I my eyes it has been the darkest day in the History of the World. Nothing heroic about it.

Moses didn't pick-up a sword, its the actions of God that would be on trial..... And good luck with that!

The morality (righteousness) of God doesn't change because the character of God doesn't change (Hebrews 13:8)

So then Dan it is still morally fine with God if we kill off whole nations of people who don't believe as we do and dashing their little ones against the rocks is still considered righteousness?!?!?!

Moses didn't pick-up a sword, its the actions of God that would be on trial..... And good luck with that!

The case against God as portrayed in the Bible would be easy. Our great protector who has allowed so much pain and suffering into a world system that he designed that it would take an infinity to hear all the charges brought against him.

I'll be more specific in the future. Moses and Joshua were "Heros." Leaving any of the inhabitants of Canaan alive would have been a tactical error.

So Songster in your mind heros thrust a spear or sword through the hearts of pregnant women and two year olds, whose only crime is living their life in the town in which they were born in.

And we're not even addressing the barbaric slaughter of the animals of so many animals. Did Canaanites have sheep and goat IED's back then.

  4. It is my belief in a modern court of law that the actions of Moses and Joshua would have them sitting in a courtroom being tried and convicted of war crimes.

Their actions occurred as Rev Rainbow pointed out in another place, time and cultural setting. To many they are seen as heroes.

Moral relativism seems to come into play here as we become more sophisticated and our moral outlook changes.

My question though is does God's Morals ever change and how could he allow his people to behave so?

  5. My beliefs are 100% inspired by God. God has told ME that the Holy Bible is not his word. It would appear, steven8166, we do not agree.

I have actually experienced the same message and have had it proven to me beyond any reasonable doubt, Steven most not have gotten that memo yet :)

  6. Fawzo, It appears that, once again, I have been unsuccessful in my attempt to effectively communicate my certainty in my Faith without giving offense. (I apologize.) There is no proof of God's existence that can be realized or recognized without prior Faith. One should not depend on the learning of mere mortals when seeking knowledge of God.

Songster you have not offended me. I merely show that "faith" is not a influential explanation or evidence of anything. People all over the world have "faith" in their belief system. before seeing it

Now you are saying that no proof or evidence of God's existence can be had without prior faith in this God. Sorry but that sounds a little crazy. It is the same as saying that one cannot see the yellow spotted turquoise dragon in my basement unless one has faith it exists. Not to be rude but people find what what they look for quite often. Thats why so many guys find the perfect women when first dating :)

Never said it did...I just point out the futility of trying give proof to one who will not see.

What exactly am I'm missing that I will not see?

  7. "For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who don't believe, no proof is possible."

Once again Rev'd Rattlesnake this claim can hold true for all faiths. The same words can be spoken by Pagan, Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim and Taoist.

Your words and claims are no more valid then theirs. So I must use reason, knowledge and experience to differentiate between the 4,200 religions of the world.

  8. Witness testimony is the primary means of proof used in a court of law. The bible, the lives of the saints and martyrs, tythe aggregate testimony of billions of Christians over 2000 years is powerful, powerful proof, and of course my own testimony helps.

So far all you have provided is proof why people shouldn't believe. A corrupted text full of errors, all the blood shed Christianity has shed over the centuries, and is the testimony of billions of Christians more powerful then the testimony of tens of billions of Hindus.

  9. Would you accept the proof if it was placed in front of you? Belief in God requires Faith alone. You either have it or you don't.

Songster people have Faith in many Gods, some more plausible than others, so having Faith in a God doesn't prove anything. Is your faith more valid then the Hindus or Wiccans?

Yes Songster if proof was placed in front of me and I deemed it plausible I would accept it. That is what made me realize the Bible wasn't the word of any sophisticated deity and altered my view of Christianity.

  10. Personally, I believe in Practical, Hard, science like light bulbs, Cars, Space travel, and Space Colonization. It is the theoretical science that I have a problem.

The theoretical stuff are really the "giant leaps for mankind" that do great things like gets us to infinity and beyond'

Do you have any problems with the theoretical concept of a God and Theo(retical)logy :)

  11. as our nation was founded on christian beliefs I see absolutly no reason to not have "under god" included in our pledge. I grew up saying the pledge every morning while facing the flag while in school it did not hurt me one bit. of course in todays world the mere mention on God is forbidden in school, but ala, or any other religious leader is strongly encouraged by the school system. Why is it that Only God is forbidden? If God shall not be uttered than in my opinion no other religious (false god's ) leaders should be allowed either.

Here is what Jefferson had to say about Christian Beliefs......what Jefferson said in his letter to Dr. Joseph Priestly....here is the actual text...."Yours is one of the few lives precious to mankind, and for the continuance of which every thinking man is solicitous. Bigots may be an exception. What an effort, my dear sir, of bigotry in politics and religion have we gone through! The barbarians really flattered themselves they should be able to bring back the times of Vandalism, when ignorance put everything into the hands of power and priestcraft. All advances in science were proscribed as innovations. They pretended to praise and encourage education, but it was to be the education of our ancestors. We were to look backwards, not forwards, for improvement … This was the real ground of all the attacks on you. Those who live by mystery & charlatanerie, fearing you would render them useless by simplifying the Christian philosophy — the most sublime and benevolent, but most perverted system that ever shone on man — endeavored to crush your well-earned & well-deserved fame."

  12. What Jacob actually says - according to the verse - is

אכן יש ה' במקום הזה ואנכי לא ידעתי

Surely YHWH is in this place and I I did not know it.

There is no punctuation in the Torah and so the exact meaning of what Jacob says is open to interpretation. Depending on how you punctuate it, and depending, in part, how you read "anochi" which means "I", but also denotes "myself" you either have an emphasis of surprise that G-d is in this place or a perhaps more subtle meaning - "YHWH is in this place and myself [in me], I did not know it.

    Just food for thought.

You know which of those translations I like :)

  13. Because of patristic evidence from the late 2nd century for the existence of copies of Mark with the "Longer Ending," it is contended by a majority of scholars that the "Longer Ending" must have been written and attached no later than the early 2nd century.[2] Scholars are divided on the question of whether the "Longer Ending" was created deliberately to finish the Gospel of Mark (as contended by James Kelhoffer) or if it began its existence as a freestanding text which was used to "patch" the otherwise abruptly ending text of Mark. Its failure to smoothly pick up the narrative from the scene at the end of 16:8 is a point in favor of the latter option. There is disagreement among scholars as to whether Mark originally stopped writing at 16:8—and if he did so, if it was deliberate or not—or if he continued writing an ending which is now lost. Allusions to a future meeting in Galilee between Jesus and the disciples (in Mark 14:28 and 16:7) seem to suggest that Mark intended to write beyond 16:8.

One can read many of the opinions of the different experts and decide for themselves.

Then there is always the evidence and the issue of the Secret of Gospel of Mark of which our Brother Hex is an expert on.

  14. actually its one i wrote myself Fawzo

Are you Catholic then because praying to his Mom instead of going to Source seems like a Catholic thing to do.

But I understand not going to source as I was sternly rebuked by a girlfriends dad once when I asked why they had so many saint statues and little prayer cards attached in their kitchen and the father asked me haven't I tried to make phone calls before and the line was busy lol

  15. The funny thing about the snake handling is the verse used to verify the action wasn't even a part of the original Gospel of Mark and was added years later.

All the early manuscripts of the Gospel of Mark end at Mark 16:8 "

So they went out quickly and fled from the tomb, for they trembled and were amazed. And they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid."

See the earliest extant copy of the New testament Codex Sinaiticus

    http://www.codexsinaiticus.org/en/manuscript.aspx?book=34&chapter=16&lid=en&side=r&verse=8&zoomSlider=0

So the whole basis for the snake handling is a forgery lol
