For the past six years, Anthony Stern (Murph) has presided over the ULC Online Forum. Soon after I started this Forum, I was caught by surprise to learn how difficult it can be to administer. I naively thought that a group of spiritually oriented people, committed to "doing only that which is right", would make things easy to manage, peaceful and calm! I discovered that no matter how many of the participants are peaceful and easy going, all it takes is a handful, or even one, who comes to the party intent on stirring the pot, and things can erupt into quite an unpleasant mess! As a result, I truly and tremendously appreciate the efforts that the admin and moderaters put into preventing such ugliness from erupting.
I feel that we have all been truly blessed that Murph has committed so much of his time and energy into our Forum. Under his reign, we have grown from a relative handful of folks (about 600) to where we are today, with over 7400 registered members. The Forum has evolved into a truly valuable resource for ULC ministers.
In 2009, ULC.NET will be expanding, offering ever increasing resources to Universal Life Church ministers, and as things evolve, they will be announced first to Forum participants. In order to facilitate these things actually getting done, and not just dreamed about, Murph has agreed to accept a promotion to the position of Director of Web Development for ULC.NET. Although his new position will include oversight of the Forum, these new responsibilities will require that the day to day administrative functions of the Forum be delegated to others.
Effective immediately, edcrain and mdtaylor will take over the day to day running of the forum. This expands on their current roles as administrators. Most of you are already familiar with these two wonderful people, and I hope that you will show them the same respect that you've shown Murph in the past.
While Murph will remain a part of the forum, all issues should be first addressed to either Mark or Ed, and they will handle it appropriately. If necessary, they will escalate the issue to Murph. (We don't expect that to happen very often, though.)
Please join me in offering Murph sincere appreciation for the work he's put into making this Forum grow, and in welcoming Mark and Ed to their new posts.
(is it okay to quote myself, this once?) In February of 2003, I took over the day to day running of the ULC forum from Sotik. I really didn't expect to still be doing so, six years later. In my time as forum admin, I've had my share of ups and downs. I've banned people I REALLY didn't want to ban, I've had a lot of laughs with some of the friends I've made here. I'm sure that there's a lot of people out there that are really ticked off at me, more or less permanently. That's okay, though. I know not everyone agrees with me, and that's okay. I mean them no harm, and wish those people the absolute best in life.
I've learned a lot during my time here. I learned how to work with PHP, (which is the coding language this forum is written in,) I've learned about various religious beliefs, I've learned, Lord help me, about copyright laws! I've gained a lot of knowledge about so many different subjects, it's unbelievable. What initially started off as a lark, (getting ordained) turned into so much more.
I'm very grateful to everyone I've encountered during my time on this forum. From so many people, I've learned so much, about religions, about people, and about myself.
I'll still be around the forum. I just won't be handling the day-to-day running of things. Ya'll know how to get ahold of me if you wanna say hi!
If you have forum problems, tho, go to Mark and Ed.
